other scientific and technical fields of study where HPC methods come in data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul><li>In the field of HPC, research at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of Charles University in Prague (MFF UK) primarily focuses on the development and theoretical analysis of both numerical mathematics and mathematical modelling algorithms and methods. In general, the Doctoral School focuses its research and development on all three of its main areas \u2013 mathematics, physics, and computer science, within both basic and applied research. Due to the wide application and excellent results of its scientists, the faculty also successfully participates in various interdisciplinary projects. In conducting research in the Czech Republic, the main scientific partners of the faculty are both selected Czech universities of technical and natural sciences and the research institutes of the Czech Academy of Sciences. Rich scientific activity can also be implemented through support from various sources, not only institutional \u2013 the reallocation of funds raised by UK based on the evaluation of science and research results, but also national and international. The academic staff of the faculty receive major international awards each year for their scientific, publishing, and organisational activities.<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"has_eae_slider elementor-column elementor-col-50 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-74d7e65\" data-eae-slider=\"49198\" data-id=\"74d7e65\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-922b5ab elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"922b5ab\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul><li>The main activities of the Mathematical Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences include scientific research in the areas of mathematics and its applications and provision of research infrastructure. Its activities contribute to raising the level of knowledge and education and to transferring the results of scientific research to practice. The Mathematical Institute obtains, processes, and disseminates scientific information and publishes scientific and professional publications. In collaboration with universities, it runs PhD study programmes and educates scientists. Within the scope of its activities, it develops international cooperation, including organising joint research with foreign partners. It holds domestic and international scientific meetings, conferences, and seminars. FEI has 28 expert groups guaranteeing individual expert directions in 8 departments (see expert groups). Academic and scientific staff publish their work in the world\u2019s best journals with around 80 journal articles being published each year, of which around 20 are published in journals ranked in the first quarter. The number of patents obtained each year by FEI is around 5, some of which are licensed. Academics are the investigators or co-coinvestigators of several national (GA CR, TA CR) and international projects (FP7, H2020), see research projects. The FEI\u2019s funding from the project activity is around CZK 60 mil. each year. The faculty also cooperates with industrial partners to tackle research challenges, with an economic activity volume of around CZK 12 million each year.<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"has_eae_slider elementor-column elementor-col-50 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-21c9387\" data-eae-slider=\"68730\" data-id=\"21c9387\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-039bb60 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"039bb60\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul><li>IT4Innovations is a research and development centre with strong international links and as such it actively participates in various prestigious international organizations (PRACE, ETP4HPC, EuroHPC, I4MS, BDVA, HiPEAC, and Eurolab4HPC) as well as in implementing more than a dozen of international projects funded primarily by the Horizon 2020 programme. Supercomputers help all experts understand complex systems and allow them to predict their future development. They can be applied wherever it would otherwise be virtually impossible, very expensive, or where classical methods would be too much time-consuming.
